As we celebrate Maternal Mental Health Month, it’s crucial to shine a light on this topic that often lurks in the shadows: the mental well-being of new mothers. Motherhood is portrayed as a time of joy and fulfillment, but the reality is that many women face significant mental health challenges during the perinatal period.
At Wayside, we recognize that maternal mental health matters. We understand that the journey to motherhood can be accompanied by a range of emotions, from excitement and happiness to anxiety and depression. That’s why we’re committed to providing support and resources to empower women at every stage of their motherhood journey.
One in 5 mothers are impacted by mental health conditions, according to the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance Fact Sheet (2023). Additionally, mental health conditions are the leading cause of maternal deaths. Many women experience co-occurring disorders, a combination of substance use disorders (SUDs) and mental health disorders. Having both disorders requires specialized care for a complex and challenging situation.
From prevention to treatment to long-term recovery, Wayside offers holistic care tailored to the unique needs of each woman. Our women’s addiction treatment services are designed to address both mental health and substance use disorders, recognizing that these issues often intersect. We believe in the power of customized, culturally responsive care plans that honor each woman’s individual experience and trauma.
No two women’s journeys are alike, and we understand that recovery is a deeply personal process. Whether you’re seeking support for addiction, trauma, or maternal mental health concerns, Wayside is here to help. Our team of experts is dedicated to providing compassionate, trauma-informed care that supports your journey to recovery and well-being.
As we raise awareness about maternal mental health this month, let’s break the silence and ensure that women know they are not alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out for help. Together, we can support maternal mental health and empower women to thrive on their journey to motherhood and beyond.
